October 2, 2017

Thursday saw Carmarthen's Scott DAVIES fulfil every young cyclist's dream by signing a professional contract with a top tier world cycling squad.

The news that Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka, have signed the local cyclist means that he will now ride alongside the best in the world at the top events worldwide. Signing for the South African registered team means that DAVIES will ride alongside former World and British Road Race champion Mark CAVENDISH and current British Road Race and Time Trial Champion Steve CUMMINGS at the squad.

The squad are one of 18 top tier teams competing within cycling's World Tour and guarantee invitations to all three Grand Tours in Italy, France and Spain, along with a host of other prestigious races.

The 22 year old from Carmarthen has steadily risen through the ranks, fulfilling his potential along the way by representing both his country and Great Britain nationally and internationally. He has placed highly in European races over the past seasons whilst part of the Team Wiggins Under 23 squad and is a former winner of the Junior Tour of Wales and record holding British Under 23 Time Trial Champion for the last four years.

Scott began his cycling journey as a youngster with the town's Towy Riders before moving on, as his talent progressed, through the British Cycling Olympic Development Programme. Last week alone he was representing Great Britain at the UCI World Championships at Bergen, Norway, where he placed top 10 in the Under 23 Time Trial and put in a massive effort for his team to place team mate Ollie WOOD fourth at the Under 23 Road Race.

Following on from the international announcement regarding his contract for the team, which supports the Qhubeka Organisation, a non-profit project that donates bicycles as part of the World Bicycle Relief's charity programme in South Africa, Scott commented;

"I’m delighted to be joining Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka next season. It’s a dream come true for me to be joining a World Tour team with such a great cause. I’m grateful to Team Wiggins for their support over the last couple of seasons, and for giving me so many opportunities to develop myself. I’m now ready to continue my development, and start a new and exciting chapter with Dimension Data for Qhubeka".
